TRAINING PROGRAMS

Training begins the moment that our new associates arrive. Learn more about our programs below.

Summer Associate Training
Summer Associates have an opportunity to attend informative and invaluable training sessions to help enhance their legal skills and become more familiar with the firm culture. Each week during the summer program, a seminar focuses on a different training topic specific to our summer associates. Topics include: firm history, firm structure, community involvement, timekeeping and billing, and diversity and pro bono initiatives.

Trial Academy
Lateral associates and first years in litigation practice areas participate in the firm’s year-long Trial Academy. Trial Academy begins in the fall and consists of lectures and interactive presentations given by senior firm members who have developed expertise in particular trial techniques. Young lawyers also participate in hands-on and interactive skills programs designed to enhance skills in areas such as negotiation, client communication, utilization of technology in the courtroom, and trial skills. The program culminates in a mini-trial in a Dallas County District Courtroom. Partners serve as the judges and other members of the firm serve as witnesses and jurors. This program hones the litigation skills of our associates and provides valuable experience preparing a case from the initial filing, discovery, motion practice, and depositions through trial. Successful completion of the Trial Academy program often results in sufficient CLE credit to last an associate through several years of practice.

Transactional Academy
Transactional Academy serves as a comprehensive training program available for associates and new hires in our transactional practice areas. The firm has developed two intensive training sessions focusing on negotiating and drafting techniques through a series of presentations given by experienced lawyers from our various transactional practices like Corporate & Securities, Taxes & Estates and International. Many Strasburger partners and senior associates also attend as participants to refresh their skills. Continuing legal education credit is also available for those who attend.

Health Law Academy
The firm offered a multi-day Health Law Training Academy for the first time in 2007 to train attorneys whose practice focuses in the healthcare industry.

All Associate Lunches
Strasburger associates attend training lunches each month that address firm initiatives and professional development topics, and often offer continuing legal education credit. Associate Lunches also serve as a great opportunity for our associates to get to know each other and develop relationships with other attorneys outside their Practice Units.

First Thursday Lunches
The First Thursday Lunch program is specifically designed for associates in their first year of practice. Each month, new associates gather to discuss issues relevant to first year associate life, including file keeping and organization, firm culture, the associate evaluation process, client intake and conflicts.

Continuing Legal Education (CLE)
Attorneys within the firm host various in-house CLE programs in order to share their knowledge and expertise, and to provide our attorneys with the necessary information and skills which are critical to an attorney’s development.

Additionally, the firm hosts a variety of external programs each year including a Tax Symposium in Dallas, Houston and San Antonio, and three Corporate Counsel Symposiums in Austin, Dallas and Houston. These Strasburger led programs are formatted so that clients and Strasburger attorneys learn alongside one another.

Attorneys are also encouraged to participate in live web cast programs through the firm’s subscription with Practicing Law Institute (PLI). PLI offers our attorneys unlimited access to online training programs to meet educational needs. These programs can be accessed and attended from an attorney’s own desk, allowing attorneys to choose programs specific to their needs and convenient for their schedules.
