RECRUITMENT & RETENTION

  • 43% of Strasburger’s 2007 summer associates are minorities;
    50% of the firm’s fall 2007 associates are minorities

  • Strasburger is a founding member of the Dallas Bar Association's minority recruitment effort, known as the Minority Attorney Business Development Initiative (MABDI). MABDI was created to increase the number of minority attorneys practicing in Dallas, Texas. With the support of participating law firms, MABDI provides professional employment and personal opportunities for minority law students.

  • Strasburger actively recruits minority students through the Sunbelt Minority Recruitment Program (SMRP). The Sunbelt program provides legal employers throughout the United States with an opportunity to interview minority law students from five states and 18 different law schools. Collectively, more than 900 minority students attend law schools that are represented in the SMRP.

  • Each year, Strasburger hosts a reception for various law school minority student associations, including Asian, Chicano/Hispanic and African American associations.  The reception provides these law students with an opportunity to learn first-hand about working at Strasburger by meeting members of Strasburger's Employment Committee, Diversity and Community Relations Committee, Minority Attorney Group, and Policy Committee.

  • In 2007 and 2008, Strasburger will make two $10,000 scholarship donations to endow the Strasburger & Price, L.L.P. Challenge Grant Scholarship in Law:  In memory of Mike Joplin. The endowment will be matched by Long Matching Challenge Grant funds to create a $40,000 endowment and will be administered by The Texas Exes of the University of Texas.  A percentage of the endowment will be awarded annually to an African American or Hispanic student who has demonstrated academic excellence and involvement in extracurricular activities at the University of Texas School of Law.

  • Strasburger has adoped a part-time or flexible schedule policy for attorneys.  We recognize the importance of work-life balance and want to retain valued and loyal employees. Currently we have 12 women attorneys – including three partners - who work part-time or flexible schedules.
