John A. Adkins, Of CounselJULY 8, 2004 (Houston, Texas) — Strasburger & Price, LLP, a full-service law firm of 200 attorneys, is pleased to announce that John Adkins has been selected as the president-elect of the Texas Exes, the alumni association of the University of Texas at Austin.

John Adkins will hold the position of president-elect for a one-year term under the current president, Hector de Leon of Austin, Texas. As president-elect, Mr. Adkins will work closely with the Board of Directors and carry out the president's duties in his absence. Upon the completion of his one-year term in July 2005, Mr. Adkins will become the president of the Texas Exes.

The association is governed by the Board of Directors which meets three times a year to deliberate over association business. The board consists of six officers, two past presidents, and at-large members. Their responsibilities include setting direction and establishing policies with input from their 35 person staff which executes the programs and initiatives of the board. The association's fundraising efforts award excellence in scholarship, teaching, and professional achievement. The association grants more than $2 million in scholarships each year, including the four-year, $30,000 Texas Excellence Awards. The 100 plus Texas Exes Chapters around the world serve the 350,000 alumni of the University, including business networking, travel programs, and continuing education.

Betsy Kamin, Partner-In-Charge of Strasburger's Houston Office and a University of Texas alumna, remarked, "Strasburger applauds John Adkins' extensive involvement with the University and his newly elected position. As an integral part of the Houston community, Strasburger carries a legacy of leadership and Mr. Adkins is yet another example of that tradition.

Mr. Adkins, an attorney in the Houston office of Strasburger, represents financial institutions in lending transactions, regulatory matters, and mergers and acquisitions. He also represents public and private companies and individuals on a variety of business matters, including corporate and securities law, real estate law, insurance law, and administrative law. He has served in senior management and legal roles at First Heights Bank, fsb, a former subsidiary of Pulte Home Corporation, as well as at American General Corporation, a diversified financial services company now owned by AIG.

Mr. Adkins received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Texas in 1973 and his J.D. in 1977 from the University of Texas School of Law, where he served as managing editor of the Texas Law Review. Mr. Adkins also recently served on the University's Intercollegiate Athletics Council for Men.

Mr. Adkins is an active member of the Houston Bar Association, where he serves as chairman of the Pictorial Roster Committee and previously served as co-chairman of the Continuing Legal Education Committee and a member of the Minority Opportunities in the Legal Profession Committee. He is a member of the UT Center of American History Foundation Advisory Council, and is married to UT alumna, Cynthia Johnson Adkins, who serves on the Advisory Council of the UT College of Education.
