Robert O'Boyle Recognized for Pro Bono Efforts

The Judge Suzanne Covington Award, which recognizes attorneys and law firms for their outstanding commitment to pro bono legal services, is displayed in the Travis County Courthouse. In 2004, O'Boyle assisted VLS by handling 13 landlord/tenant cases, primarily representing individuals on governmental assistance. In addition to O'Boyle's personal involvement, Strasburger is also a sponsor of the VLS Webb Evening Clinic, which provides general legal advice to low-income individuals, on a monthly basis. "It's so fitting that Bob receives this award," stated Trish McAllister, Executive Director of VLS. "Like Judge Covington, Bob displays a strong desire to use his professional skills to help those in need. We are incredibly thankful for Bob's dedication and support of Volunteer Legal Services." O'Boyle currently serves as a Director of the VLS board, Treasurer of the Austin Bar Association, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Lawyer Referral Service, and Co-Chair of Strasburger's Pro Bono Committee. He is a Founding Life Fellow of the Austin Bar Foundation, which encourages and promotes activities that further the administration of justice in Travis County, Texas, and is also a Fellow of the American Bar Association. O'Boyle's practice is comprised primarily of business tort litigation.
His areas of practice include trials and appeals in intellectual property,
securities, professional liability, insurance coverage, and
banking/asset-based lender litigation, as well as general business
litigation. Judge Suzanne CovingtonJudge Covington currently presides over the 201st Judicial Civil District Court in Austin, Texas. She received her law degree from The University of Texas School of Law in 1977, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. After graduating law school, Judge Covington was offered a position at a large law firm but chose to work with low-income individuals, as well as on an Indian reservation for several years. Prior to her 1994 election to the bench, the bulk of Judge Covington's
career was serving as a legal aid lawyer. She is known as a strong and
vociferous advocate for low-income individuals. Judge Covington is
currently on the Professional Advisory Board for Court Appointed Special
Advocates (CASA) of Travis County. Volunteer Legal Services of Central TexasVLS, formed in 1981, helps low-income people with their civil legal problems by matching them with attorneys who are willing to take their case free of charge. All assisted individuals live at or below 125% of the federal poverty guidelines. Today the organization boasts over 1200 active attorneys. |
