Strasburger and Price, LLP Media Release - Strasburger Partner Receives the 2008 J. Chrys Dougherty Award for Commitment to Pro Bono

Austin, Texas — Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas named Strasburger partner Robert “Bob” O’Boyle as the recipient of the J. Chrys Dougherty Award for 2008, which recognizes individuals for exemplary dedication and commitment to the principle of judicial access for all people regardless of income. The award was named after J. Chrys Dougherty, a private attorney and bar leader, whose efforts helped to build a strong working partnership between the Bar and legal service providers, and was awarded to Mr. O’Boyle for both the volume of pro bono cases he assumed and as an acknowledgment of his long-standing commitment to pro bono work.

Past Dougherty Award winners include prominent Austin attorneys Lloyd Lochridge, Ben Vaughan, Bill Whitehurst and Judge Joseph H. Hart.

“Bob has really set the standard for pro bono work in our community,” said Trish McAllister, Executive Director of Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas. “It is rare to find an attorney that displays his level of commitment, and even rarer to find a Partner that takes on as many pro bono clients. Bob often handles our more complex cases or our emergency cases that require his immediate attention. He is always willing to help, be it by taking cases, speaking at a conference, or speaking about pro bono work in his firm or with others. His commitment is truly phenomenal.”

In addition to his role as Director of Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas, Mr. O’Boyle is the President-Elect of the Austin Bar Association, and will begin his position as president in June. Additionally, Mr. O’Boyle is the former chair of Strasburger’s Pro Bono Committee, and continues to lead Strasburger’s Austin office in its monthly participation in the Volunteer Legal Services clinic.

After graduating from The University of Texas in 1982, Mr. O’Boyle received his J.D. from Southern Methodist University in 1985.
