Regional expertise. Clients indicate that geography is one of the most important factors in choosing international counsel. We serve clients in Latin America, Europe, Canada, the Caribbean, Asia, and the Middle East -- w ith a special focus on meeting the needs of North American companies operating or exploring opportunities in Latin America and Latin American companies operating in North America. Our geographic reach is significantly extended because of two factors: our Strasburger & Forastieri joint venture with the Mexican law firm of Forastieri Abogados and our affiliation with the prestigious law firm network ALFA International, with member firms in over 37 countries. Strasburger has years of experience in international transactions, which has helped us to establish a responsive and reliable network of foreign local counsel. Thus, where our clients require counsel outside the U.S. or Mexico, we can call upon trusted colleagues. Our broad knowledge, capabilities and network have allowed us to operate in the mode of international "general counsel" with many clients, especially middle market companies.
Access. Our seven U.S. offices and our Mexico City office ideally position us to assist companies operating in or exploring business opportunities in Latin America. Over the past several years, the United States and Latin America have become increasingly strong trade partners, resulting in both north and southbound business growth. Strasburger’s Texas locations and Mexico City office have facilitated the development of strong working relationships and an in-depth direct understanding of Latin American business practices. New York has been an important source of the firm's cross-border finance and mergers and acquisitions practice for many years. The New York office creates a client service platform for our international clients whose transactions mandate our presence there. The partner in charge of the New York office has worked throughout Latin America for more than 20 years.
Washington, D.C. is a key center of activity in the international trade and transportation regulatory and enforcement arena. Our office provides us proximity to policymakers and regulators which allows us to advocate on behalf of clients’ business interests more effectively and efficiently. Industry knowledge. Strasburger's service model depends on our understanding the client's business as well as its legal issues. Areas of special industry experience include:
- Financial services
- Energy and related services
- General Manufacturing
- Transportation (ground, air and maritime)
- Defense contracting
|
- Healthcare
- High technology
- Telecommunications
- Food distribution
- Direct marketing
|
A number of our international team lawyers have prior business, accounting, and related non-legal expertise.
Multi-lingual/Multi-cultural. Many of the attorneys supporting Strasburger’s international clients are multi-lingual (e.g., Spanish, Portuguese, French, German) and many are multi-cultural, having lived and/or worked outside the United States. This cultural acumen enhances the value of our client counseling. With 15 attorneys in Mexico City associated with Strasburger & Forastieri, we have long-standing cross-border capabilities and unique experience handling matters involving either U.S. or Mexican-based companies with business interests in Latin America.
