Strasburger is among a limited number of law firms in North America that have made a major commitment to handling the multitude of legal matters regularly faced by transportation and logistics companies, both domestically and internationally. This commitment is supported by the firm's substantial presence in Texas, one of the world's most dynamic and innovative centers for transportation and logistics. The importance of Texas as a center for transportation and logistics is illustrated by the following facts:

  • Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is the world's third busiest passenger airport.

  • Texas also is home to Alliance Airport, the world's largest all cargo airport, and to Addison Airport, the world's busiest general aviation airport.

  • The Port of Houston is the world's eighth largest, ranking first in the U.S. in volume of foreign tonnage, and second in volume of total tonnage.

  • Texas annually has a larger number of freight transportation border crossings to and from Mexico and Latin America than any other state in the U.S. bordering Mexico.

  • Laredo, Texas is the busiest inland port in the U.S.

  • Texas is the headquarters location for three major airlines, for the largest full-service refrigerated trucking company in the U.S., for the largest bus line in the U.S., for the second largest railroad in the U.S., and for leading logistics providers.

  • With the second largest population of any state in the U.S., plus ready access to Mexican, Latin American and overseas markets, Texas is a primary location for freight terminals, freight warehouses and freight distribution centers.

Today, the firm's focus on transportation and logistics extends not only throughout Texas, but also far beyond Texas. Having offices located in the national capitals of the U.S. and Mexico, as well as in four major Texas cities, Strasburger views transportation and logistics from a domestic, international and intermodal perspective, with close attention to the details "on the ground" at our strategic office locations.

The more than 30 lawyers in the firm's transportation/logistics law practice group are drawn from all six of the firm's offices. They have highly diverse backgrounds, with several being thoroughly bilingual in English and Spanish. The group includes a former Vice President and Deputy General Counsel of the American Trucking Associations, who was instrumental in drafting virtually all Federal trucking legislation during the past quarter century, as well as a past President of the Transportation Lawyers Association. The group also includes lawyers who have completed:

  • a training program for the safe handling and transportation of hazardous materials;
  • the National Safety Council's defensive driving course for professional truck drivers at Groendyke Transport, Inc.'s training facility located at Enid, Oklahoma; and
  • Mayflower Transit, Inc.'s Practical Transportation Training Institute For Litigation Attorneys at the Mayflower Transportation Training Center for drivers located at Carmel, Indiana.

OUR TRANSPORTATION/LOGISTICS TEAM

Strasburger's transportation/logistics lawyers stay abreast of current issues and developments in transportation/logistics law through memberships and involvement in organizations such as the American Trucking Associations; the Association For Transportation Law, Logistics And Policy; the Aviation Law Forum of the American Bar Association; the Aviation Law Section of the State Bar Of Texas; the Canadian Transport Lawyers' Association; the Conference Of Freight Counsel; the National Association Of Railroad Trial Counsel; the Texas Motor Transportation Association; and the Transportation Lawyers Association. Recognized for their knowledge of the latest developments affecting the transportation/logistics industry, our lawyers are frequent speakers before these organizations.

In addition, Strasburger is a member of the American Law Firm Association ("ALFA"), an association of major law firms throughout the U.S. and in twenty-three countries. This membership allows Strasburger to partner with other ALFA law firms in the U.S. and other countries to help our clients with legal needs in such locations. Our transportation/logistics lawyers are active leaders of ALFA's transportation law education committee.

Our team is dedicated to providing legal services promptly and in a cost-efficient manner. As part of its long-term commitment to the transportation/logistics law practice, Strasburger dedicates firm resources to the training and mentoring of associate lawyers and paralegals. By staffing transportation and logistics legal matters with the appropriate partner, associate and/or paralegal personnel, the firm is able to provide the highest value with cost-effective billing rates which help clients keep legal budgets on track.

Strasburger is also dedicated to finding complete solutions for a client's problem. When necessary, this involves the combined effort of lawyers in more than one area of law. Our broad-gauged approach is illustrated by the fact that five lawyers in the firm's international law practice are also active in the firm's transportation/logistics law practice. Those lawyers include Mark Scudder (Dallas office), John Rogers (New York office), and Mark Andrews and Ken Siegel (Washington, D.C. office).
