OVERVIEW

Strasburger believes and supports the mission of public schools to educate tomorrow’s leaders. As school lawyers, we provide counsel to the Board of Trustees, Superintendents and Human Resource Directors on policies, open government, investigations and decision-making.

EXPERIENCE

On a typical day in the office, any one of our school lawyers may be advising on the following topics:

  • First Amendment speech, religion and public forum issues as well as other Constitutional and Civil Rights’ questions as they apply to school districts
  • How to word an agenda for the proposed termination of a school teacher accused of drug-use and comply with the Texas Open Meetings Act (“TOMA”)
  • Whether minutes reflect that proper authority was given to enter a contract or whether a claim under a contract can be defeated for lack of proper authorization
  • What portions of records must be redacted to comply with the Family Educational Right to Privacy Act (“FERPA”) in response to a Public Information Act (“PIA”) request and whether an Attorney General ruling should be requested to exempt certain documents from disclosure
  • Development of law enforcement manual
  • Negotiation of language in Memorandum of Understanding with Education Foundation
  • Preparation of opinion letters for the district on student disciplinary alternative education program issues
