PRO BONO HIGHLIGHTS

Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas (VLS)

For the past four years, Strasburger has received the Judge Suzanne Covington Pro Bono Service Award.  The Covington Award honors firms and attorneys who commit an extraordinary amount of time assisting low income clients of VLS. VLS recruits volunteer attorneys to help low-income persons in central Texas with civil legal issues.

Since February 2009, the Austin office has staffed a legal advice clinic sponsored by VLS. At the clinic, Strasburger attorneys meet with certain applicants for pro bono legal services to help VLS determine whether an applicant is eligible for VLS representation, or, where appropriate, to provide applicants with brief legal advice on certain civil law topics. Strasburger attorneys participating in the clinic include: Clint Rosenthal, Bill Darling, Kathy Darling, Matt Thompson, Bob O’Boyle, John Dorsey, Steve Roberts, Tiffany Hildreth, Duane Brescia, Mitch Zoll and Buddy Ferguson.

In March 2008, VLS honored Austin partner Robert. O'Boyle with the J. Chrys Dougherty Award which recognizes individuals for exemplary dedication and commitment to the principle of judicial access for all people regardless of income.  (Media Release)  Mr. O'Boyle is also a member VLS Board of Directors.

Community Justice Program (CJP)

View the Community Justice Program Newsletter excerpt as PDFEvery summer, San Antonio office attorneys and staff volunteer for the Community Justice Program, a project of the San Antonio Bar Association at St. Mary's University Center for Legal and Social Justice. The mission of SABA's Community Justice Program is to bring legal services and night court to neighborhood locations for low income residents of San Antonio. CJP's partner, Texas Rural Legal Aid, supports the program by prequalifying clients and coordinating all client intakes. CJP accepts non contested matters such as family law, consumer, employment, housing, bankruptcy, simple landlord/tenant disputes, probate matters and simple wills. Participating attorneys assess each applicant's legal needs, answer questions, direct them to the appropriate resources and see each case through to completion.
