Strasburger CIO Joan Holman Named a STEM GameChanger
October 2, 2017
Strasburger & Price, LLP is proud to announce that Chief Information Officer Joan Holman will receive a Women in STEM Award from Girlstart. The Women in STEM Awards spotlight the accomplishments of women who make significant contributions to the fields of science, technology, engineering and math and who serve to inspire girls and young women to pursue STEM studies and, ultimately, careers.
“Joan is an important asset to Strasburger & Price, continuously driving us to innovate,” said Dan Butcher, Managing Partner of the firm. “She applies her talents to ensure the firm acquires leading-edge technology and the expertise to utilize it to serve Strasburger’s clients”
In her 25 year career in IT, Joan has held numerous leadership roles at companies in diverse industries. Currently, as CIO at Strasburger, she is responsible for all strategic and operational aspects of information technology, litigation support, the legal library, marketing technology and technical training for the firm. Previously, Joan was Senior Director, IT for a leading biotechnology company where she managed the tactical IT support provided to the organization. She has also served as Senior Director Information Technology for an environmental services company and as a Manager for an international telecom technology company. Joan graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics.
Joan promotes STEM initiatives outside of the workplace as a member of the national board of the Society for Information Management and the SIM DFW Chapter Board. She is an Executive Host for the DFW Technology Ball and is active in the Dallas Executive Women’s Roundtable. Joan previously served in a number of leadership roles in the Dallas chapter of the Association of Women Executives. The Dallas Business Journal recognized Joan as one of its 2016 “Women in Technology” for her contributions to the technology community. She was also a finalist for the “2017 CIO of the Year” award from DallasCIO.
Joan will be honored at Girlstart’s Game Changers Luncheon, to be held in Austin on October 18. The fundraising event, attended by more than 600 industry leaders, is sponsored by biotech, technology, gaming, engineering, and many other STEM companies. The event promotes STEM education for girls and raises funds to support Girlstart.
Through its comprehensive programming, Girlstart provides a year-round, intensive suite of STEM education programs for K-12 girls. Based in Austin, Girlstart’s core programs foster STEM skills development, an understanding of the importance of STEM as a way to solve the world’s major problems, and an interest in STEM electives, majors, and careers.
