Strasburger Partner Elizabeth Copeland Nominated to U.S. Tax Court

August 4, 2017

Strasburger & Price, LLP (Strasburger) is proud to announce that President Donald Trump has nominated our partner Elizabeth A. Copeland, for Judge of the United States Tax Court.

“The firm is incredibly proud of Elizabeth and her accomplishment,” said Dan Butcher, Strasburger’s Managing Partner. “This nomination confirms that she is one of the finest tax attorneys in the country and is highly regarded by her peers in the legal community. All of her colleagues at Strasburger know Elizabeth will be an outstanding judge.”

The United States Tax Court is a court of record established by Congress under Article I of the U.S. Constitution and is composed of 19 presidentially appointed members. While the Court is physically located in Washington, D.C., the judges travel nationwide to conduct trials in various designated cities. The nomination requires senate approval.

San Antonio Partner-in-Charge Marty Roos added, “I have worked with Elizabeth since 1992 and know she is a preeminent tax litigator. I believe her passion for justice, fairness, upholding the law and helping others is extraordinary; she will bring exceptional talent to the bench.”

A previous Chair of the State Bar of Texas Tax Section, Elizabeth has been Board Certified in Tax Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 2002.  Best Lawyers® selected her as its 2017 Lawyer of the Year in Tax Law in San Antonio; Tax Analysts® named her a 2012 Tax Person of the Year in its national edition of Tax Notes. In addition to her JD, Ms. Elizabeth holds an active Certified Public Accountant’s license.

Upon graduating from law school, Elizabeth served as an Attorney Advisor to Judge Mary Ann Cohen of the United States Tax Court. During law school, she served as a Clerk to Justice Eugene Cook of the Texas Supreme Court. Before enrolling in law school, she spent three years as an accountant at Ernst & Young, rising to the rank of Senior Accountant. Elizabeth received her B.B.A, in Accounting with Honors, from the University of Texas at Austin, and her J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law.
