Strasburger Team Builds Home and Relationship With Habitat For Humanity
May 14, 2014
Strasburger attorneys recently joined The Dallas Bar Association Home Project in building its 23nd Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity home. The firm was one of the sponsors of the Home Project, the longest-running, local, whole-house sponsor of Habitat for Humanity. The focus was “Bankruptcy Day”, and Judge Harlin Hale and Judge Stacey Jernigan, bankruptcy judges in Dallas, volunteered to work on the home. Dallas Major Mike Rawlings also made a special appearance.
The weather was perfect for the build – mild and sunny and in the 70’s. The Judges, Strasburger attorneys, volunteers from the Dallas Bar Association, and other sponsors with bankruptcy practices worked together to raise the exterior frame of this year’s Habitat house. Volunteers will continue to work on the home each Saturday until it is complete.
“Habitat for Humanity’s provides a hand up – not a hand out – to deserving people in the community,” said attorney Andrew Edson, who leads the firm’s participation in the Home Project. “I enjoy every moment of working with other volunteers and the future home owners to provide what so many of us take for granted,” he added. Andrew serves on the Dallas Bar Association’s Home Project Committee, which plans sponsorships of Habitat for Humanity Homes. A true believer in the values promoted by Habitat for Humanity, Andrew has volunteered on Habitat houses since he was nine years old.
The Dallas Bar Association Home Project will continue to raise money to cover the cost of this year’s home, in addition to recruiting labor through volunteers. If you would like to make a donation, or for information about volunteering, inquire via email to the Home Project Committee at firstname.lastname@example.org.
